what is a writ ? in detail


smita73: writ is any formal written order issued by the court. any order, warrant, directions e,and so on issued by supreme court or high coirt is termed as a writ. example habeaus corpus,mandamus,writ of prohibition,writ of certiorari,quo warranto.

anything that is issued under an authority is a writ......Further parliament by law can extend power to issue writs to any other courts (including local courts) for local limits of jurisdiction of such courts

A writ is a formal written order by a body with administrative or judicial jurisdiction ,in modern usages this body is generally a court. Warrants, perogative writs ,and subpoenas are common types of writs, but many forms exist and have existed.
