Acceleration is the rate at which the velocity of an object changes. Basically, if an object is speeding up per a given unit of time, it is said to be accelerating.
Ex) If a car goes at a speed of 2 miles/hour in 1 second, then 4 miles/hour in another second, then 6 miles/hour in the 3rd second, then the car is accelerating at a constant pace- every second, it goes at a speed that is 2 miles/hour faster than the previous second. This is acceleration.
It's SI unit is meter per second square!
