what is acceleration

pihu78571: Acceleration is the name we give to any process where the velocity changes. Since velocity is a speed and a direction, there are only two ways for you to accelerate: change your speed or change your direction—or change both.

Hey mate!

Answer:

____________________________________

⇒ Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity of an object with time.

⇒ Hence, the mathematical expression for acceleration is given as:

Acceleration = Change of velocity / Time taken

Acceleration = v - u / t

⇒The acceleration is a vector quantity because it has magnitude (value) as well as direction of it's own.

» The two types of acceleration are:

♦ Uniform Acceleration

⇒If the velocity of the object changes by equal amounts in equal intervals of time, then the acceleration of the object is said to be uniform.

⇒For example, the rolling motion of a ball down a smooth inclined plane.

♦ Non Uniform Acceleration

⇒If the velocity of the object changes by unequal amounts in equal intervals of time, then the acceleration of the object is said to be non uniform.

⇒For example, the motion of a bus from one town to another is a non uniformly accelerated motion.

♦ The SI unit of acceleration it's metre/(second) ² which is written as m/s².
