what is acceleration and retardation

Rate of change of velocity is called acceleration.

a = (v-u)/t

{a=acceleration, u=initial velocity, v=final velocity, t=time}

When the change in velocity is negative i.e. it decreases with time, then it is called retardation.

When the change in velocity is positive i.e. it increases with time, then it is positive acceleration.

Hope it Helps!!!

Acceleration :

Acceleration of body is defined as the rate of change of velocity per unit time.

Retardation :

Acceleration with negative sign is also known as retardation.
