Acceleration is the change in velocity of an object per unit time.

  • SI unit = m/s^{2}
  • to find, a = \frac{v-u}{t}
  • vector quantity because it requires both magnitude and direction

If velocity decreases, then the acceleration becomes negative and is called deceleration or retardation.

There are two types of acceleration;-

  • uniform acceleration - if velocity increases/decreases at a uniform rate
  • non - uniform acceleration - if velocity increases/decreases at non -uniform rate.
