The rate of change of velocity is said to be acceleration.

Suppose if a body starts by a velocity u and after time t, it's velocity is v.

So rate of change of velocity = v - u / t

Hence a = v - u / t.

Hope it's helpful to u.

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity in a moving body.
Acceleration=change in velocity / time taken.
SI unit = m/s
Let us consider a body which is moving with an initial velocity ,u and after some time , t seconds , it's velocity becomes , v . The difference between the final velocity (v) and the initial velocity (u) is called change in velocity.
Since,
Acceleration =change in velocity / time taken.
Acceleration = final velocity - initial velocity / time taken.
a = v-u /t
at = v-u
Or, v= u + at
The above relation is also called first equation.
