"The acetabulum is the point where the three paired bones of the hip bones - ilium, ischium and pubis - join to form a socket in which the head of femur articulates. This articulation is called the hip joint.

The non-articular part of acetabulum comprises of acetabular fossa and acetabular notch whereas the articular part includes a rim surrounding the acetabular fossa. Acetabular labrum is a cartilage ring found attached to the articular part. It deepens the acetabular cavity and thus improves the stability of the hip joint.

Ligamentum teres connects the acetabular notch to the fovea capitis of femur.
