● An acid is a chemical substance (usually a liquid) with hydrogen as main constituent and reactive to other substances to form salts.

♤Some of the properties of acids are as follows -

☆ It can turn litmus red from blue.

☆Can Dissolve some metals ( Typically, a corrosive one )

☆ They have sour taste.

☆ They lose their acidity when combined with alkalies

☆They release hydroxyl ions in water.

☆Acids in solution have ph below 7.0

EXAMPLES OF ACIDS ARE -

■Sulphuric acid (H2SO4)

■Nitric acid  (HNO3)

■Uric acid in urine

■Acetic acid in vinegar

■Citric acid in oranges/lemons

■Lactic acid in curd

These are the substances which when dissolved in water furnish into h + ions and are called acids

Two examples are :-

HCl and HClO4
