The acids in the acid rain react with calcium carbonate of marble and degrade it. The phenomenon is called Marble cancer. Acidic rain fall on Taj Mahal thus the monument got corroded by the harmful chemicals. India's Taj Mahal Is Changing Colour Because of Insect Feces and Pollution .
