                  Adjective is a word that tells you more about a noun. It describe or modify other words, making your writing and speaking much more specific, and a whole lot more interesting.

There are eight types of adjectives . They are,

  • Proper adjective
  • Descriptive, qualitative or attributive adjective
  • Quantitative adjective
  • Numeral adjective
  • Demonstrative adjective
  • Distributive adjective
  • Interrogative adjective
  • Possessive adjective

Proper adjective :

 

                             An adjective that is formed from a proper noun and that is usually capitalized in English.

Example :

Tom Cruise is a famous  actor.

He  is an Indian.

Descriptive adjective :

                                     The descriptive adjectives can be simply defined as the type of adjectives that are used to express the size, color, or shape of a person, a thing, an animal, or a place.

Example :

The tree is very tall.

The tea which she drank was too bitter.

Quantitative adjective :

                                        Quantitative adjectives describe the exact or approximate amount of a noun.

Example :

Sheela  has only few friends.

There was a little juice left in the jar.

Numeral adjective :

                                 Numeral adjectives can be numbers or numerical orders, describing the number of nouns or the order of the noun being described.  

Example :

They have been waiting for me for thirty minutes.

The baby is three weeks months old.

Demonstrative adjective :

                                            Demonstrative adjectives are special adjectives or determiners used to identify or express the relative position of a noun in time or space.  

Example :

This chair is broken.

Those books are mine.

Distributive adjective :

                                     An adjective used to refer to each and every person/ thing separately is called distributive adjective.

Example :

Every nation is proud of its culture.

I like neither of you.

Interrogative adjective :

                                         A word that modifies a noun by asking a question is called interrogative adjectives.

Example :

Whose books are with you?

How did you come here ?

Possessive adjective :

                                      A word that indicates the possession of the noun to a person/a few people.  

Example :

She wore a beautiful dress.

Their car is slow.
