Adulteration is the process by which quality of food is spoiled by adding inferior quality substances or removing some valuable ingredients.
Usually these inferior quality ingredients are harmful for human beings.
Arhar Dal has adulteration of Metanil yellow. Presence of Metanil Yellow in arhar Dal can be checked by putting few drops of HCl (Hydrochloric acid) in sample of Dal, and if the colour of sample changes into pink colour, then the Dal has adulteration of Metanil Yellow.
Metanil yellow is added to Dal for inhancing it's colour.
