An erg (also sand sea or dune sea, or sand sheet if it lacks dunes) is a broad, flat area of desert covered with wind-swept sand with little or no vegetative cover. The term takes its name from the Arabic word ʿarq (عرق), meaning "dune field". Strictly speaking, an erg is defined as a desert area that contains more than 125 km2 (48 sq mi) of aeolian or wind-blown sand and where sand covers more than 20% of the surface.

Aeolian or Eolian refers to things related to Aeolus, the Greek God of wind and patriarch of the Greeks of Aeolia. Specific items include:

Aeolian Islands, islands in the Tyrrhenian SeaAeolian or Aeolic order, an early order of Classical architectureAeolian processes, wind-generated geologic processesAeolian dust - atmospheric or wind-borne dustAeolians, an ancient Greek tribe allegedly descended from AeolusEolian, a volume of poetry by David Bates (poet)Eolian (Solar car), a solar car designed at the University of ChileEolianite, a sandstone formed from wind-transported sediment
