The rapid growth of algae in water bodies is known as algal bloom.It decreases oxygen capacity of water which makes it difficult for the marine plants and animals to breath and eventually kills them.

it's effect on water body is eutrophication. which leads to algal bloom and algae bloom greenish substance formed on water bodies.
algae bloom absorbs dissolved oxgen and leads to suffocation for fishes and kills the fishes.
algae bloom cause because of the usage of fertilizers in agricultural fields.and it comes to water body by rain.
rain water take the fertilizer substance from agriculture field flows to the water bodies and cause algae bloom
