allotropy or allotropism is a phenomenon where a single element exist in two or more forms ,in the same physical state . carbon has following allotropes

.graphite : used as lubricants in machines where high temperatures are generated

.diamond: worlds most hardets substance used in cutting hard elements

.fullerence: a hollow spherical structure , a carbon allotrope as well .famous fullerene is buckminster fullerene which is written as c60
