alluvial soil - a fine-grained fertile soil deposited by water flowing over flood plains or in river beds. alluvial deposit, alluvial sediment, alluvium, alluvion - clay or silt or gravel carried by rushing streams and deposited where the stream slows down.

Alluvial soil is present on the surface of banks of rivers..the most healthy nutrients are present in this soil like potash phosphorus acid etc...the new alluvial soil is known as khadar and old soil is known as bhangar....some crops like wheat n rice etc..are grown in this soil only ...Alluvial soil is also found in the higher areas above the flood plain covering a greater part of the Terai. The nutrient content of new alluvial soil is fair to medium depending on how long it has been cultivated. Conversely, the nutrient content of old alluvial soils is very low.
