what is alpha hydrogen or beta hydrogen what is the concept behind this

according to the rule of nomenclature..when any functional group like ketone attached with the compound then the ALkyl group on left side termed as Alfa ,bita,gama...nd on right side alfa dash nd soo on...because alkyl group is attached both sides so we can't use 1,2,3.

Alpha hydrogen are those hydrogens which are attached to the alpha carbon abd alpha carbon is that carbon which is attached to the functional group.
