If  a substance can be decomposed by microorganisms like bacteria over a period of time in the presence of air and water, then it is said to be biodegradable. Examples - dead plants and animals, their waste, fruits, vegetables, flower, paper, etc.

If  a substance cannot be decomposed by this natural process then it is said to be non biodegradable. Examples - chemicals, paints, plastic, rubber, toxic, plastic, metals, etc.

Hope this is helpful!
