Alkenes can be obtained from haloalkanes .These haloalkanes are usually bromo and iodo .

Haloalkanes on heating with KOH loses one molecule of H2O halide to give alkene .

Eg .If 2alkenes may be formed due to dehydrohalogenation of haloalkanes ,the one with is most substituted is the main product.
