An electromagnet is a magnet consisting of a long coil of insulated copper wire wrapped around a soft iron core that is magnetised only when electric current is passed through the coil.

when an soft iron is placed in an current carrying solenoid there is induced magentic effect which makes the soft iron as an magnet , which is called electro magnet

------------------
if the current flow is stopped the soft iron will no more be an electro magnet

it looses its magnetic properties

it is a temporary magnet
