Electroscope:
- This device is used to detect electric charges and it detects Coulomb electrostatic force in the object.
- It is majorly used in electrostatic machines.
Construction of electroscope:
The labelled diagram of an electroscope is attached below.
- Electroscope has glass container with a open at the top.
- The open is fitted with rubber cork which has rod inside the glass container and knob at the top.
- The rod is fixed with two metal leaves.
Working of electroscope:
- When a charged electric rod is moved towards the metal knob.
- The polarity of the knob changes according to the charge of the rod.
- This changes charge of the metal leaves inside the container.
- When metal leaves does not conduct charges, it falls downward. When metal leaves conduct charges, the leaves repels and spreads out.
