Lightning strikes more frequent in hilly areas:
- Lightning occurs among clouds (sheet lightening) and between clouds and land (fork lightening).
- Clouds have large amount of negative charges whereas land have positive charges.
- When clouds come closer to land or buildings, the negative charges in cloud move towards positive charge in land/building which causes lightening.
- Hills are taller than plains, hills are closer to clouds compared to plains, so, hilly region attracts clouds more than plain.
