What is an equation of the line that passes through the point (-6,0) and is parallel to the line 4x+3y=24?

Answer :

  The required parallel line is

           4x + 3y + 24 = 0

Solution :

The given line is 4x + 3y = 24

Any line parallel to it can be written as

            4x + 3y = k .....(i)

Given that, (i) no. line passes through the point (-6, 0), then

  4 (- 6) + 3 (0) = k

  or, k = - 24

From (i), we get the required parallel line as

      4x + 3y = - 24

i.e., 4x + 3y + 24 = 0
