FIR or First Information Report is a written report of crime registered with police as soon as crime is discovered . Generally it is a complaint lodged with police  by victim of offence . The FIR usually mentions date,time , other details and basic facts about the offence . If known the identity of accused and witness is also mentioned.

FIR is the abbreviated form of First Information Repot. It is the first information about an offence recorded by police officer on duty. The FIR is very important because on the basis of the FIR, the police starts is investigation. Denial to lodge an FIR is an illegal act.
