Aerobic Respiration :

  • It is the process in which large amount of energy is released in the presence of oxygen from the breakdown of food substances.

  • Glucose ( 6\: molecules ) --In\: cytoplasm--> Pyruvate( 3 \:carbon\: molecule ) + energy --in\: mitochondria--> Carbon\: dioxide + 6\: water + 38 \:ATP  ( energy )

  • This process starts in the cytoplasm and continuous in the mitochondria of the cell.

  • Water and carbon dioxide are produced as the waste products.

  • The energy released during this process is used for all other living processes .

  • The release of energy in aerobic processes is much more than an error inaerobic process.

Anaerobic Respiration :

  • It is the respiratory process in which small amount of energy is released in the absence of oxygen from the breakdown of food substances.

  • It takes place in yeast, bacteria and in human beings.

  • Anaerobic respiration is term as fermentation in microorganisms.

  • On the basis of products formed it is categorised as :
  1. Alcoholic fermentation
  2. Lactic acid fermentation

In simple words aerobic respiration(aero means air) means respiration in the presence of oxygen.

And anaerobic is just the complete opposite of it That is it's respiration in the absence of air or oxygen.

But there's more to it

Some examples of aerobic respiration will be photosynthesis done by plants.

Some examples of anaerobic respiration will be respiration by yeasts, and respiration in muscles when there is shortage of oxygen.
