it is the angle formed between extension of the refracted and incident ray

light is deflected s it enters a material with refractive index >1 aray of light is deflected twice in a prisim. the sum of this deflection is the devition angle when the entrance and exist angle are equal the deviation angle of a prisim will be minimal .
