The Peculiar shape of the prism makes the emergent Ray Bend at an angle to the direction of the incident ray, this angle is called the angle of deviation..

light is deflected s it enters a material with refractive index >1 aray of light is deflected twice in a prisim. the sum of this deflection is the devition angle when the entrance and exist angle are equal the deviation angle of a prisim will be minimal .
