When gold or silver is dipped in Aqua Regia, the mixture corrodes the gold and silver metal from the ornament and mixes in itself.

The shining of the ornament comes but the weight greatly reduces.

Gold and other valuable metals are then extracted from the Aqua Regia later on with suitable chemical treatment.

Usually, It is used to cheat people. For the sake of cleaning the ornaments, the thieves dip the ornaments into Aqua Regia which in return brightens the Ornaments but reduces its weight.
