What Arrhenius theory?

Arrhenius theory states that an acid is a hydrogen containing compound, that releases H+ ions when dissolved in water.

And base is a hydroxyl ion containing compound, that releases OH¯ions when dissolved in water.

Here Acids are classified as Strong acids and weak acids,

Examples:-

HCl—>H+ + Cl¯(strong acid)

CH3COOH—>CH3COO¯ + H+(weak acid)

And bases are classified as weak and strong,

Examples:-

NaOH—>Na+ + OH¯(Strong base)

NH4OH—>NH4+OH¯(Weak base)
