Answer: Asexual reproduction is the process of reproduction that involves only one parent. It is mostly seen in unicellular organisms like Amoeba, paramecium who reproduce by binary fission(simply splitting into two). However it can be seen in multicellular organisms like spirogyra who reproduce by budding(growing out of parent’s body and then breaking away from it).

Asexual reproduction in living organisms is the generation of their offspring (young ones) from a single parent cell without the need for the opposite sex.

Explanation:

Asexual reproduction:

  • There is only one parent involved.
  • No sex cells are released and no fertilization is involved.
  • The offspring are produced by the division of cells. As a result, the offspring are identical to the parent and have the same genetic makeup (DNA). The biological term for two organisms having the same DNA is 'clone.'
  • Asexual reproduction is common in simpler forms of life, such as yeast, amoebas, and bacteria.
