• The autonomic nervous system automatically regulates the activities of the Smooth muscles, Cardiac muscles and Glands.

• The autonomic nervous system usually operates without conscious control.

• The autonomic nervous system is entirely motor oriented.

• All autonomic axons are efferent fibres.

• The autonomic nervous system is regulated by specific centres in the brain such as, the Cerebral cortex, the Hypothalamus and the Medulla oblongata.

• Autonomic fibres release chemical transmitters at the site of the Synapse.
