Baking soda is chemically called sodium hydrogencarbonate / sodium bicarbonate.(NaHCO₃)

Reaction involved in its preparation :-

NaCl + NH₃ + H₂O + CO₂   -----> NaHCO₃ + NH₄Cl

CHEMICALLY BAKING SODA IS SODIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE OR BICARBONATE (NaHCO3). IT SOMETIMES ALSO TO MAKE COOKING FASTER.

PREPARATION:

SODIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE IS PREPARED IN THE LABORATORY FROM SODIUM CHLORIDE BY PASSING CARBON DIOXIDE GAS THROUGH A COLD SOLUTION OF NACL SATURATED WITH AMMONIA.

NaCl+H2O+CO2+NH3=NaHCO3+NH4Cl

Uses:

1)Used in medicines as an antacid.

2)Used in manufacturing of aerated water
