Ball and socket joint is a natural or manufactured joint or coupling, such as the hip joint, in which a partially spherical end lies in a socket, allowing multidirectional movement and rotation.

Hope this helps!

Hey

In such Synovial joints one of the bones has a ball like structure at the end. It fits into a socket formed at the end of the Other bone. The bone with a ball can move nearly in all directions. Examples of this joints are shoulder joint between head of humerus and socket of pectoral girdle and hip joint between ball of femur and socket of pelvic girdle
