bark is a part of secondary tissue developed at later stages in trees' life. it has lenticular transpiration but it's hardly 1% of total transpiration rate. They are formed by periderm. ie the vascular cambium are de_ differentiated from the cortex and forms sclerenchymatous cells exposing outside and compact parenchymatous cells facing inside. In between these differentiated cells, lens like cells are present which are loosely arranged for transpiration. They are lenticels. In sclerenchyma part, it's deposited with many secondary metabolites like resins, tannins and cell wall materials like lignin ,suberin .The secondary metabolites are secreted by parenchymatous cells associated with it. Hence barks of some trees deposited with useful materials like alkaloids, etc are used in medicinal purposes. I hope it might help!
