Barter system involves economic transfer of items without direct involvement of token currency. Instead of paying a person in notes of money for some item or service you can pay him with other items equivalent in value such as Kgs of wheat for the the amount of work procured or something bought.

For an example if you had to buy an ice cream you didn't necessarily have to pay him in notes. You could also give him flour,or other items equivalent in value.
