For example: A shoemaker needs 1 kg of rice and a farmer needs a pair of shoes. So the shoemaker can exchange his 1 pair of shoes with 1 kg rice of the farmer.
It is not easy to exchange goods as it is a very difficult task to find someone who have the thing you want and is ready to exchange with your good.
Let us consider the same example of Shoemaker and Farmer. What if farmer needs pesticide for his crop instead of shoes. So the shoemaker cannot exchange his shoes to get rice from the farmer. There are many other reasons why it is not easy to exchange goods direcly without using money.
