Overt and covert behaviour

Explanation:

  • Behaviour is the external reaction or response expressed by an organism to a stimulus or environment (internal and external) in general.
  • It denotes the way a person acts through specific mannerisms.
  • Behaviours can either be overt or covert
  • Overt behaviours are those apparent, directly observable and measurable behaviours observed through observable properties like intensity, density, frequency, observation etc.
  1. Overt behaviour include observable behaviors or actions like speaking, eating, walking, working etc
  • Covert behaviours are those which cannot be directly observed or displayed to the visual eye.
  1. These include cognitive behaviours like thinking, reasoning, etc which in turn can lead to actions.
