When the election is held in just one constituency to fill a vacancy which may rise due to the death or resignation of a member, it is called bi-term election.
When the Lok Sabha or any of the State Legislative Assemblies are dissolved before the expiry of the normal term and elections are held to constitute a new house, it is called mid-term election.
