Bihu is the main festival of Assam. There are 3 types of bihu- Bohag bihu, Kati bihu and Magh bihu. It is important because the new year of assamese people starts from bohag bihu. In kati bihu assamese people light a diya and pray to the tulsi plant. During magh bihu the assamese people go to a open place and eat a meal all together with the neighbours and burn a bonfire also known as Majhi. It is celebrated after the harvesting of crops.
