Nitrogen is one of the most important component of the soil and it is also important for the plants as a vital nutrient source.
But the nitrogen molecules don't blend in the soil automatically, different mirco-organisms convert atmospheric nitrogen gas into different nitrogen compounds which blends in the soil.
This process is known as the biological fixation.
But in the nitrification process the bacterias oxidise the ammonia to form nitrate and nitrite.
Biological fixation is performed by the Azotobacter ,but the nitrification is performed by the Nitrosococcus etc.
