Biomass is plant or animal material used for energy production, or in various industrial processes as raw material for a range of products . It can be purposely grown energy crops wood or forest residues , waste from food crops , horticulture, food processing , animal farming or human waste from sewage plants .

Biomass primarily includes the carbohydrate and oxygen compounds.

Some examples of typical biomass materials are :-

• Shavings made from wood and coal.

• Agricultural waste, such as dry leaves, dried stems and bagasse

(Bagasse is the cellulosic substance left after the sugar cane juice is extracted)

• Sewage

• Cattle dung

The growing source of bioenergy are certain biomass materials.
