It is the red liquid that circulated in the arteries and veins of humans and other vertebrate animals, carrying oxygen to and carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body.

A red protein responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood of vertebrates. Its molecule comprises four subunits, each containing an iron atom bound to a haem group is called Hemoglobin.

And Each hemoglobin protein is made up subunits called hemes, which are what give blood its red colour. More specifically, the hemes can bind iron molecules, and these iron molecules bind oxygen.
And The blood cells are redbecause of the interaction between iron and oxygen.

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER,

WELL FIRST OF ALL,

>> WHAT IS BLOOD?

→ Blood is a fluid present in humans and animals that delivers the necessary elements/substances such as NUTRIENTS and OXYGEN to the cells and transport the harmful metabolic wastes away from the cells.

>> WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF BLOOD?

→ Red Blood Cells :
Red blood cells represent 40% to 45% of the blood volume. They are generated from your bone marrow at a rate of four to five billion per hour.

→ Platelets :
Platelets are the smallest of our blood cells and literally look like small plates in their non-active form. Platelets control bleeding.

→ Plasma :
Plasma is the liquid portion of your blood. Plasma is yellowish in colour and is mostly made up of water, but it also contains proteins, sugars, etc. It transports water and nutrients to your body’s tissues.

→ White Blood Cells :
White blood cells are essential for good health and protection against illness and disease.

>> WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF BLOOD?

→ Transportation :
It helps in the transportation of essential substances such as nutrients and other useful elements to all the organs and also transports away the metabolic wastes from the cells/organs.

→ Protection :
Blood performs the task of protecting the body from the infections and disease causing bacteria. The WBC's found in blood are responsible for safeguarding the different organs of the body by producing antibodies which are capable of fighting off and killing the germs and viruses that causes serious damage to the body cells.

→ Regulations :
It regulates the temperature of the body and maintains it to a level that is tolerated by the body with ease.

>> WHY IS THE COLOR OF BLOOD RED?

→ Blood is red from the protein, haemoglobin. Hemoglobin has a molecule called a "HEME" which has the metal iron in it. When the iron is oxygenated, it becomes red.
The function of haemoglobin is to carry the oxygen and thus blood is able to carry oxygen to other parts of the body and different organs.
