The boiling point of a substance is the temperature at which the vapour pressure of a liquid equals the pressure surrounding the liquid and the liquid changes into a vapour. The boling point of a liquid varies depending upon the surrounding environmental pressure.

As an example, at sea level the boiling point of water is 100°C (212 F), but at 6,600 feet the boiling point is 93.4°C (200.1F).

When any substance is heated upto a certain point, it changes its states. A substance can mainly occur in 3 forms i.e. Solid, Liquid or Gas.

When a substance is heated upto a point when it changes its form from Liquid State to Gaseous State, that temperature is known as its boiling point.

Example - When water is heated, it expands upto a point where it changes to the gaseous form from the liquid state. The boiling point of the water is 100°C.
