c-value is the amount of DNA contained within the haploid nucleus, or one half the amount of diploid somatic cell of a eukaryotic organism.

c-value paradox is the complex puzzle surrounding the extensive variation in nuclear genome size among eukaryotic species.

the fact that genome size does not reflect the functional gene number in eukaryotes is actually the c-value paradox. the reason is the presence of so many non coding DNA in our genome ie. DNA regions which does not code any protein, thus not acting as a gene.
