Venation :-

All the leaves contain veins. The arrangements of veins in the leaves of various plants in different. The arrangement of veins in the lamina or leaf blade is known as venation of the leaf. Two main types of venation are :-

  1. Reticulate Venation
  2. Parallel Venation

In reticulate venation, the veins in a leaf a occur in an irregular way forming a net like design. In this type of venation the veins spread out from the mid-rib to all the parts of the leaf haphazardly, giving the appearances of a net. Examples of plants having reticulate venation are mango tree, neem tree, tulsi, marigold, pea plant, mustard, sunflower, orange, guava, pulses, etc.

In parallel venation, the veins in a leaf run parallel to one another on both the sides of the mid-rib. Example plants having parallel venation are wheat, paddy, maize, millet, sugarcane, bamboo, barley, lily and banana.
