Bleaching action of hydrogen peroxide is due to oxidation. Its bleaching action is because of formation of nascent oxygen. Hydrogen peroxide acts as a strong oxidizing agent both in acidic and basic media. If hydrogen peroxide is added to a cloth then it breaks the chemical bonds of the chromophores. O-H dissociates and generates free radicals which is very reactive and acts like bleaching agent.

1. Hydrogen peroxide acts as a bleaching agent because it has strong oxidizing nature.

2. When added to a cloth, it breaks the chemical bonds of the chromophores which is a colour producing agents. Hence, the visible light is not absorbed and the cloth gets whitened.

3. It is also used as anti-sceptic which can be used in wounds and used as month rinse which helps to remove mucus inside our mouth.
