In eukaryotes, there are two distinct types of cell division: a vegetative division, whereby each daughter cell is genetically identical to the parent cell (mitosis), and a reproductive cell division, whereby the number of chromosomes in the daughter cells is reduced by half to produce haploid gametes (meiosis).

\underline\bold{Cell\:division:-}

● The process in which new cell formed in organisms in order to grow, to replace old, dead and injured cells and to form gametes required for reproduction is called \bold{cell\:division}.

=> There are \bold{two} types of cell division:-

1. Mitosis

2. Meiosis

\bold{Mitosis:-}

The process of cell division by which the cell called mother cell divides into two identical daughters cells having the same numbers of chromosomes as mother cell.

-> It helps in growth and repair of tissues in organisms.

\bold{Meiosis:-}

In meiosis cell divides and produces four new cells.

• The new cells formed during meiosis have half the number of chromosomes than that of mother cell.
