what is cell ? who discovered cell and how?

cell is a structural and functional unit of life.It was discovered by Robert hooke in 1774. When he observed a cork through his simple microscope ,he found small small structures which are like beehive and and name them as cell which means little compartment. Actually it was dead cell .The living cell was discovered by Anton van leeuwenhoek.
