A cellular network, also known as a mobile network, is a network of mobile base stations that provide coverage for us to be able to use our mobile/cell phones for phone calls, text messages and data services (mobile internet). The base stations radiate electromagnetic waves or radiations (just like a local radio station or TV station does) and the mobile phones within the area where these radiations reach can connect the phones to the network. Usually a typical cell covers tens of kilometers but then there a large number of cells used by a mobile operator to provide nationwide coverage.
