Most Hindu temples of the medieval period derived their form from either the double-roofed (dochala) or four-roofed (chauchala) thatched huts of rural Bengal.

Chauchala is the four-roofed Hindu Temple which was witnessed during the medieval period in Bengal. It was actually a curved roof with four sloping sides. this type of architecture was copied from the thatched huts of Bengal.

DoChala : It was a two-roofed temple structure. It was also a curved roof with two sloping sides and thus was called Dochala.
