Wood is not a single compound, it is a mixture - a heterogenous biopolymer - mainly cellulose (which is a long chain polymer comprised of beta 1:4 linked glucose units, approx empirical formula: C6 H10 O5) and lignin (which is a cross-linked phenolic polymer, approx empirical formula: C3 H3 O1) Thus it is comprised almost entirely of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, but also contains moistureand trace minerals.
