It is the combination of oxidation and reduction reactions.

  • Oxidation is a form of response wherein the addition of electronegative detail/oxygen to a substance happens or the removal of electropositive detail/hydrogen from a substance happens.
  • A reduction is a form of reaction wherein the removal of electronegative detail/oxygen happens or the addition of electropositive detail/hydrogen from a substance happens.

3Fe_3O_4 + 8Al ------ 9Fe + 4Al_2O_3

In the above instance, the addition of oxygen to the electropositive detail occurs. Therefore, aluminum is oxidized. However, the elimination of oxygen is taking region from Fe3O4, as a consequence, the compound is reduced. Hence, each of the reactions is taking region collectively and the above instance is an instance of redox-oxidation & reduction reaction.
